Recently, 82 acres were developed to create the Culverhouse Nature Park which has a community garden, unpaved trails, and picnic area. If you are looking to cool off, the Selby Aquatic Center has a water park with slides and fountains, fun for youngsters and adults. Nearby Potter Park has basketball and tennis courts, playgrounds, a picnic shelter and is dog friendly. At the southernmost part of Palmer Ranch is Oscar Scherer State Park, which offers canoeing, kayaking and 15 miles of walking trails. Historic Spanish Point is one mile south of the park and has a 30-acre living museum, located on Little Sarasota Bay, which celebrates the history of the region.
